“CFML is Evolution 1079″
CFML’s History:
In 1981 a Campus Educational License was granted to Evolution 107.9 by the CRTC. The station was originally called CMFL and operated with a ‘closed circuit’ or non-broadcast frequency throughout the BCIT broadcast centre. The station was granted a new license on January 22nd, 1982 and was broadcast with a low power carrier current. Evolution’s signal was carried and radiated by power lines. Lower Mainland cable firms re-broadcast Evolution’s signal and piped it through a complex network at 104.5 Mhz. on Shaw Cable (cable FM). Eventually internet streaming was added and Evolution’s coverage began to expand. Most recently, Evolution transformed with the development of our ability to transmit over low power fm March 7, 2006. After a long and challenging process, Evolution is an awesome station with huge potential.
CFML’s Name:
The name “Evolution” is an empowering brand for broadcast students. They are the ones who will transform and “evolve” the radio industry and Evolution is the station in which our students can channel their energy in to perfecting their craft.
CFML’s License:
Evolution 107.9 (CFML) is owned and operated by the BCIT Radio Society, a non-profit organization headquartered at BCIT. The President and Vice President of the Institute are on the Board of Directors along with Associate Dean Brian Antonson and the Radio Program Head.
Evolution’s programming is not a random sequence of events going from one hour to the next. Our station format is a reflection of the “promise of performance” (POP) made to the Commission.
